As far as I remember this is the third or fourth person over the course of the last 3 months or so who comes here with the news that their XMR vanished from XMRWallet.com, i.e. "the original" and not from one of the earlier XMRWallet.org or similar clear scam incarnations.

I realy think we should err on the side of caution, take these reports seriously and assume that the once rightful and honest owner of XMRWallet.com either sold to a scammer, or let the domain expire and a scammer picked it up.

Already in the best of times this web wallet had few updates, and an author that had very few connections to the rest of the Monero dev community. Put on top of this that web wallets quite in general are a somewhat risky thing, given that the browser is the most probable program to get compromised on pretty much every computer nowadays.

can't DMCA take it down?

[–]HoboHaxor 3 puntos4 puntos  (1 hijo)

DMCA is US based. Can't take down something in other countries.

Now fucking with the DNS root servers.......

Direct action. Gets results

I'm a little late but can promise it was a scam. I made two deposits. One was.small.and instant and I withdrew straight away..the second I left for about twelve hours and go to check my balance, it has been withdrawn within 30 min from the deposit.

I've got no reason to defame a site. They stole from me, they can get away with it with a hidden blockchain and I'm begging users for their own financial security not to use it. I was even part of the ledger leak and would advise keeping on that or trezor instead, cold wallets are difficult for new people so next best bet is just a reputable exchange but know you don't own your keys.

Crypto is not for everyone. You are your own bank. Would you give someone on the street 20k USD because he says that he is a bank? Think people!

/u/Sir-Forsaken , I like to double-down on a question that /u/keeri_ already asked: Can you please try to find out whether you were on xmrwallet.com or merely on a site with a similar domain name, like xmrwallet.org, xmr-wallet.com or the like?

This question is important, because at least I myself have lingering suspicions that even the true, genuine, once-honest website xmrwallet.com is now scamming.

[–]MrThomasPorridge 2 puntos3 puntos  (0 hijos)

The same thing happened to me. definitely xmrwallet.com

[–]Sir-Forsaken[S] 0 puntos1 punto  (0 hijos)

Sorry for replying late. The website I have listed is accurate as the scam I do not know about the other one I wouldn't use a web Wallet again. Please, there are so many better options than web wallets it not worth the financial loss I suffered to be as stupid as me, and I'm sure some are currently acting legit but you simply don't own your keys and Its.dangerius.

But for now all I can warn you against is the website listed. There should be a community effort to recognise that it a scam people are falling down everyday and nothing has been done about it it's still number one Google result

[–]steliob 4 puntos5 puntos  (0 hijos)

Thats one expensive lesson

[–][deleted] 10 puntos11 puntos  (0 hijos)

Why do you let you other control your private key ? For 47 xmr i would of course bought an hw wallet.

.........

[–]keeri_ 2 puntos3 puntos  (1 hijo)

It's literally the first wallet that comes up on Google search

are you sure it was .com and not .org? the first search result for me is the ad for .org (which is a scam website)

[–][deleted] 2 puntos3 puntos  (3 hijos)

You clicked on an ad which is why it was the first option on google.

Also the advertiser can change the real display name of the website in google ads (meaning the final url could be completely different).

So right now there’s nothing we can do to solve this issue but warn people, and you yourself should reach out to google to report the ad + domain.

The more people reach out to Google directly, the more they’ll realized this xmrwallet.com scam is an issue.

[–]HoboHaxor 1 punto2 puntos  (0 hijos)

More of Google's BS 'security' stance. Look the other way for cash.

[–]rbrunner7XMR Contributor 0 puntos1 punto  (1 hijo)

You clicked on an ad which is why it was the first option on google.

I remembered that whe had a number of people here who confirmed, no they did not go to .org, but to the true .com site. But I tried to find the relevant posts again now, to link them here, and came up empty. Might be that I mis-remember.

The author of the wallet calls themselves Nathalie Roy and is active on Reddit from time to time as u/WiseSolution. My question to them would be: Given all those long-running troubles with scam websites, why not put up clearly visible warnings on the website? You have a nice "Welcome to XMRWallet" popup on your homepage - why no warning right there?

Of course it's expected that the scammer(s) will copy such warnings, but still they should have some effect with some people checking the URL.

They used .com ad and redirected (302 redirects from .com) to .org

Now they are using .org ad and redirecting to .net

.com owner is surely involved in this whole selective scamming

[–][deleted] 2 puntos3 puntos  (0 hijos)

It's sad. Website wallets are the least secure wallets in my opinion.

Always consult getmonero.org for anything monero-related.

[–]MP_BRZ 1 punto2 puntos  (0 hijos)

Bro that sucks. I'm sorry 😧

Sorry for your loss.

[–][deleted] 1 punto2 puntos  (0 hijos)

At this point it's just not worth messing with web based wallets or extensions.

CLIs, GUI or HW only.

[–]ughwtfnoway 1 punto2 puntos  (0 hijos)

Yeah! Here is my story. In my case, the reason could be a bug in the wallet (not necessarily scam) but I definitely lost my monero because of xmrwallet.com! Not .org, not something else! It was xmrwallet.com. It shows "Payment ID" for particular transaction (derived from destination address), and I cannot restore "Payment ID" for a transaction from seed or something else, I can get it only from the wallet I made the transaction from. So it is the proof I made the transaction from xmrwallet.com (in my case XMR never arrived, so I lost them).

[–]Such_Ad3921 1 punto2 puntos  (1 hijo)

Just lost $1,100 worth of XMR few minutes ago.

I've been using them since 2019 once in awhile.

Never got scammed.

I thought all these bad reviews were fake reviews.

Or they got scammed from a copy phishing site.

NOPE I was dead wrong and paid the price few minutes ago.

Sent +4.613075250000 XMR

Got logged out soon as my funds were available to send.

Tried to login again. got 'Server error, Try again' msg.

came back about 5 minutes later.

There i see my funds sent to some address 2minutes ago.

Yes its XMRWALLET.COM

It's been there on my bookmark for the pass 2 years.

They are SCAMMERS. STAY AWAY from them.

This happened to me 5 days ago for $800. How are they not on the avoid list?? I don’t get it. Ik it’s my fault but damn I had used them 2-3 times before this.

[–]proghoti 1 punto2 puntos  (0 hijos)

You can afford 47 XMR, but cannot get the hardware wallet??? Use the hardware wallet for god sake. I have heard enough people who complain about online wallet. Use your own hardware wallet instead so you won’t get any trouble

[–][deleted] 0 puntos1 punto  (2 hijos)

NEVER USE A SOFTWARE WALLET.

[–]sebikun -1 puntos0 puntos  (1 hijo)

That's stupid to say. If you know how it's save.

[–][deleted] 0 puntos1 punto  (0 hijos)

Obviously it’s okay to store a bit in a software wallet. I am referring OP’s decision to unlock 47 Monero with one!

[–]HoboHaxor 0 puntos1 punto  (0 hijos)

And next up in the news, water is wet.

[–]demslearn2fish 0 puntos1 punto  (0 hijos)

People please.. if you're relatively new to the space just use cake wallet app. Stores your XMR locally on your device. Much more secure and simple.

[–]notauser99 0 puntos1 punto  (0 hijos)

better to look over at duckduckgo never had sth different than the original site showing me

[–]alferg 0 puntos1 punto  (1 hijo)

I just had my XMR wallet on this same page ROBBED, minutes after I deposited 4 XMR! Total of 5.686466954631 stolen! What is going on? It has worked fine for the last 2 months!

[–]Chimmichangaaaaa 1 punto2 puntos  (0 hijos)

Dude!!! Happened to me last night. Not phished scammed from the .com so we’re just fucked???

[–]Pretend-Hospital3784 0 puntos1 punto  (0 hijos)

Hi, I had the same experience the other day. £100 was in my account and then mysteriously disappeared due to an unknown transaction on 10th March, which cleared out my funds.

I hadn't even logged on to my laptop that day and keep my seed written on a piece of paper, so no way I was hacked.

Emailed support, but is non-existent. This is nothing more than theft!

[–]Legal_Place_4879 0 puntos1 punto  (0 hijos)

I just fell for this scam….
